The Introjected Perpetrator and Inner Child Healing

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

"If we can heal our wounded child, we will not only liberate ourselves, we will also help liberate whoever has hurt or abused us.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

Often those who abuse others have been abused themselves. The term ‘Introjected Perpetrator’ refers to the energetic dynamic between the abuser and the abused such that abused person acts like his/her abuser. This is because the abuser’s traits are internalized and experienced by the abused person’s Self which can lead to deep wounding.

In addition to working with someone trained in inner child healing, it can be helpful to engage with your inner child daily.

  • Sit quietly when you will not be interrupted.

  • Ask for help from your spiritual guidance.

  • Invite your inner child to come and be with you.

  • Assure your inner child that you love him/her, unconditionally, no matter what.

  • Ask your inner child what s/he wants.

  • Allow yourself to sense the answer.

  • Give your inner child whatever s/he wants.

  • The only rule is that your inner child does not rule your life now. You can lovingly tell him/her this. S/he can have whatever s/he wants, whenever s/he wants it except rule your life.

·Check in with your inner child a few times daily initially so s/he feels safe and loved. When you sense s/he feels more secure, you can check in less often throughout the day.
