Adding healthy fats (avocados, avocado oil, extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, fatty fish, and nut butters) and protein when eating carbohydrates changes how we metabolize the carbohydrates and positively influences our glucose and insulin levels. This also translates into lower glucose absorption which means fewer blood sugar spikes.


There are several easy ways to balance blood glucose levels, avoid insulin resistance and maintain optimal energy levels for healthy gut, brain and immune function. These include eating healthy fats and protein with carbohydrates, having larger meals earlier in the day and walking or exercising for 15 minutes after meals.
