Have you ever felt out of sorts though unable to name the emotions you were experiencing? If so, this practice can help.
Come into your body by sensing your feet on the ground or your back resting against a chair, sofa or bed
Ask for help from your spiritual guidance
Gently wrap your left hand around your right wrist
Notice if all parts of you are present. If not, ask your Self which are missing and invite them in.
o If you’re unsure, ask “if I did know, which would they be?” Once you have a sense, invite those parts to join.
Ask your Self what you’re feeling. You may have a sense of the primary emotion.
o If not, ask, “If I knew, what’s the emotion?”
Notice where in your body you feel this. Perhaps you sense it easily.
o If not, ask “If I could know, where in my body is the _____? (emotion)
Perhaps the emotion has a message for you. Ask your body what it is.
o If you don’t perceive it, ask for insight.
Sit with the emotion, focusing on the feeling in your body. When your mind intervenes, notice what it has to say and then return to feeling the emotion in your body. Allow it space. Give it permission to be fully present.
Stay with the feeling in your body for 15 minutes or so. As you sit, giving your attention to how your body experiences it, notice what is different.
At the end of this exercise, you’ll notice shifts – perhaps the feeling is less intense. Maybe it changed into something else. Possibly it's difficult to feel it at all. Allow your Self to be with whatever it is.
