Gaining Clarity and Finding Solutions

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

“Reason is in fact the path to faith, and faith takes over when reason can say no more.”

Thomas Merton

Sometimes I find myself trying to reason my way through an issue though this isn't usually how I find peace or gain insight into a problem.

Typically, I’ll write the item down, mindfully, paying attention to my handwriting and writing each word, with care, in longhand. Then, I’ll leave what I wrote for a while. Sometimes, days later, something will come to me. A thought. A feeling. A sense of what seems right.

Other times, before going to sleep, I’ll ask my spiritual guidance for help with the issue while I sleep. Sometimes when I wake up, I have greater clarity.

Sometimes, I ask my Higher Self in a meditative sate.

Sometimes, I’ll pose the question aloud to the Universe as in “what would it take for me to gain clarity on _______?” Sometimes, while driving on the highway, paying attention to traffic flow, I’ll have a sense of my next step. Sometimes, while reading an article, I’ll get a gut feeling on the way forward.

What I’m seeing with greater lucidity is that there are many ways to get answers to difficult questions. For me, it’s usually not through focusing or obsessing on the issue. Rather, I’m noticing that when I can let the issue or question be with me, in my consciousness, the clearest solution will arise, without pushing or intense effort.

Somewhere, in the places my psyche intersects my consciousness, faith takes over.
